Acrylic sprayed (colour coated / painted) are the most common courts in Britain. They are usually porous tarmac and are commonly coloured two tone green or green and red but other colours are available.
True acrylic courts – they can be cushioned or non-cushioned – are different. They are not porous and the coloured surface is built up in layers and is squeegee applied. These are top end courts. Major tournaments are played on these courts including the American and Australian Open.
It is not recommended that these courts are built at clubs unless they have other courts that can be used in bad weather. They are excellent indoor courts. They have a very true bounce and the speed of court can be engineered in during the coatings.
